a fun and exciting outdoor performance exploring the british tradition of the Stang & stocks
Originally commissioned for Corby Pole Fair (a historical British town fair that takes place every 20 years); Sticks & Stocks looks at the tradition of the ‘stang’, a wooden pole used to capture fair goers who hadn’t paid their entry fee, and the ‘stocks’, a device that fee dodgers were held in as a punishment.
After walking through the crowds with their ‘stang’, the three dancers play a lighthearted game of cat & mouse, as they athletically jump over, under and around the pole, chasing, ducking, diving and weaving to evade capture in the ‘stocks’! Following the performance, take a selfie in the ‘stocks’ and learn more about this traditional custom.
