#FriendsFriday 60 - Lucy Starkey
How are you/have you been involved with Casson & Friends?
I’m currently performing Casson & Friends awesome new duet PREPPERS, and I have performed the wonderfully interactive The Dance WE Made since joining the team in 2016.
What do you love about dance?
I love the creativity, the thrill, and that it is shared.
When I dance, I feel empowered, strong, delicate, grounded, liberated… the spectrum of movement is huge and it’s sensational! There is so much I love; partner work, text, dancing in unusual spaces, improvisation, learning set material, in PREPPERS we use headphone verbatim, there is so much fun to be had.
In dance you can creatively explore anything that fires you up. I’m curious about and inspired by so much, dance satisfies my curiosity for all the fascinating topics and collaborations out there.
To top it all off, I love performing. Communicating with audiences and sharing ideas, stories, subjects through dance is absolute magic. And as an audience member, watching dance gives me the freedom and responsibility to understand the subject of a piece, it’s really cool.
What song always makes you dance? (We have a Spotify playlist!)
Ooh, tough decision! I’ll go with a tune you’ll frequently catch me warming up to: Loud Places (ft Romy) by Jamie XX - Expansive and groovy, it always gets me going.

What else are you working on at the moment? (Upcoming performances, exciting projects, holidays!)
I have some super exciting performances coming up. We have our culmination performances of The Imagination Museum Mayflower 400 with Made by Katie Green, and I will also be working on a new performance project with About Time Dance Company this summer. With my own company I am currently collaborating with an Astro-physicist and UCLan. Last year we created a cross-curricular scheme for teaching science through dance, which was really successful, so we have plans to extend the project, watch this space!
