Casson & Friends

Accessible, Interactive & Joyful


Under the direction of Tim Casson, Casson & Friends are a UK based Record Breaking Dance Theatre Company, creating unique performances that are accessible, interactive and joyful. The company works with a diverse range of collaborators, from filmmakers and musicians to computer programmers and psychologists, but most often collaborates with the public and communities, inviting them to engage with dance in exciting and accessible ways.

With a passion for bringing dance to people in new and unusual contexts, C&F’s work to date has been presented in a range of settings including Shopping Centres, Libraries, Hotels, Pubs, Offices and Football Stadiums. C&F also explore the potential of digital technology to create new ways of enhancing and engaging with dance performance.

The company has presented work across the UK and Internationally including at Sadler’s Wells Theatre, Glastonbury Festival, Brighton Digital Festival, bOing International Family Festival, The Lyon Biennale, Downtown Dance Festival in New York, Festival Quartiers Danses in Montreal, Harare International Festival of Arts in Zimbabwe, and at West Kowloon Cultural District in Hong Kong.

Tim and the company have previously been Dance East Associate Artist (2018-2022), Associate Company at Pavilion Dance South West (2013-2015) and Dance Digital (2014-15). Tim was a QuestLab Artist at Studio Wayne McGregor (2019), a Metal Change Maker Artist (2017-18), and was invited to participate on the Clore Leadership Short Course in 2016. Casson & Friends were also selected to curate their own ‘Wild Card’ evening at Sadler’s Wells in 2015.

Originally from Harrogate in Yorkshire, Tim trained at The BRIT School and Bird College before completing an MA in Contemporary Dance at London Contemporary Dance School.

Tim is a Choreographer, Educator and Performer, creating for theatre, public, unusual and online spaces. Directing Casson & Friends, he makes accessible, interactive and joyful dance projects with productions including, Choreocracy, Night at the Theatre, and the World Record Breaking, The Dance WE Made. Tim’s work has been presented in France, Portugal, Austria, Sweden, America, Canada, The UAE and Zimbabwe.

Tim works extensively in education as a teacher, mentor and consultant for a wide range of dance organisations including NYDC and Sadler’s Wells where he is Programme Leader for their Young Associates scheme. Tim performed and taught extensively for Jasmin Vardimon Company, founding their JV2 Training Programme, and has also worked with Ben Wright, Katie Green and Nigel Charnock. Tim recently worked with Disney, Star Wars and Public Health England, to create their Train Like a Jedi programme.

A DanceEast Associate Artist (2018-22), Tim previously held associate positions at Pavilion Dance South West, Metal Peterborough and dancedigital. He is also a SERIOUSWORK Certified Facilitator of Lego® Serious Play® Method and Materials.
